Gond Katira (also known as Tragacanth Gum) is one of India's most trusted natural cooling ingredients. Soakedovernight in water, it swells into a soft, gel-like substance that cools the body from within β€” naturally, gently, andeffectively.

Long before air conditioning existed, Indian households relied on Gond Katira sharbat to survive peakΒ summer heat.Β At Trupta Foods, we bring you Gond Katira in its purest form β€” no additives, no fillers, no processing. Just the realΒ gum, the way it has always been used.

What is Gond Katira?Β

Gond KatiraΒ  is the dried sap collected from the stems of the Astragalus gummifer plant β€” a thorny shrub native to the Middle East and Central Asia, widely used in Indian Ayurvedic and Unani medicine. In English, it is called Tragacanth Gum.

Unlike Gond (Acacia Gum), which is a warming food used in winter laddoos and post-delivery recipes, Gond KatiraΒ is classified as a sheeta virya (cold potency) ingredient in Ayurveda β€” meaning it cools the body from within.

Thetwo are completely different products and should not be confused.
When soaked in water overnight, Gond Katira crystals expand to 10-15 times their original size, forming aΒ translucent, odourless gel. This gel is consumed in cold drinks, sharbats, faloodas, and desserts as a cooling agentΒ during summer.

Gond Katira Benefits

Natural Coolant (Body Heat Reducer)

Gond Katira is classified as thermogenic-opposite in Ayurveda. Regular consumption during summer months reduces excessive body heat, prevents heat stroke, and relieves burning sensations in the palms and feet.

Digestive Support

The mucilaginous gel formed by soaked Gond Katira coats the gut lining, reducing inflammation and acidity. It actsΒ as a natural laxative, relieving constipation without cramping.

Gond Katira Benefits for Females

Traditionally used in post-delivery recovery drinks (mixed with warm milk), it helps restore energy and supports uterine health. During pregnancy, it relieves constipation and provides cooling comfort safely. It also supports skin hydration and elasticity when consumed regularly.

Gond Katira Benefits for Skin

Rich in natural polysaccharides, Gond Katira supports collagen synthesis and skin moisture retention. Topically, it is used in face packs for hydration and to reduce skin inflammation. Internally, it works as a natural anti-aging food.

Weight Management

Gond Katira expands significantly in the stomach, creating a feeling of fullness without adding calories. It is a zero-calorie dietary fibre source that supports healthy weight management.

Energy and Stamina

Despite being cooling, Gond Katira is a nourishing food. Mixed with milk, jaggery, and nuts, it provides sustained energy β€” particularly useful during hot months when appetite and energy levels drop.
